Rarely is the hatred of women at the heart of the hard-line anti-abortion movement made so explicitly clear. It is especially twisted that the state legislator that introduced this bill is a woman.

Of course this will not pass because the NM legislature is Democratic.

One would hope that this would also not pass in a Republican state legislature.

The religious right hates independent right asserting free women. They love women as the religious right views as a woman’s proper role - Biblically submissive brood sows.

Amazing that the same anti-abortion advocates who claim that a fetus is a person (and are pressing ahead with personhood amendments) have no problem treating a fetus as an object or property when the need suits them.

The only thing this does is further stigmatize and penalize a woman who is already traumatized by the rape/sexual assault and is now pregnant as a result.

Extending that logic, if somebody poisons or shoots you, then you should not be permitted to seek treatment, as the procedure would “tamper” with the evidence.

Makes perfect sense to me. Has anyone mentioned yet that the woman who proposed this bill is an idiot? If not, let me be the first.

“New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders,” said Brown. “By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”

She’s obviously a liar. Because if the goal really was to protect women, the law would have been written differently— there wouldn’t have been this clause about procuring an abortion. She’s a liar and hater of women.

To take that one step further, here’s how it would play out in the Republican Utopia:

The State requires women to carry pregnancies resulting from rape to term as evidence.

The Defense would be able to argue that ‘since the female body didn’t shut that whole thing down’, it wasn’t a legitimate rape.

The case would be thrown out, and the the rape victim would be left to raise the child without any public assistance.

Kafka lives, and he’s writing Republican policy.
